SLABBED — a Minecraft promo banner: blocky white "SLABBED" lettering over sunset hills, with torches, lanterns, a bed, a crafting table, a flower pot, a door, and a chicken all sitting happily on stone slabs.

FINALLY! Place items on slabs!

Hang lanterns from slabs! Stack blocks on slabs! Stack blocks on those blocks on those slabs!* Your slabs finally get the love they deserve 💖

*Slabbed is still in beta. Expect some rough edges while it continues to improve and expand.

✨ New in 0.3.0 — Countered's Terrain Slabs compatibility!! 🎉

Remember when I said Terrain Slabs compat was coming "in a future update"? THE FUTURE IS NOW.

The much asked-for feature has arrived! With Countered's Terrain Slabs installed, terrain slabs become proper, first-class support:

Terrain Slabs supportHighly recommended: Countered's Terrain Slabs
🪶Flush, not floatyBlocks, lanterns, torches & chains on terrain slabs lower to sit flush — no more hovering
🧩Combined slabsPut a vanilla slab on top of a Terrain Slabs slab and they merge into one continuous surface.*
🔌100% optionalRuns exactly the same with or without Terrain Slabs. No Terrain Slabs? No problem 👍
🕳️No more world gapsSlabbed used to tear see-through holes in Terrain Slabs terrain, straight into the void. Gaps have officially been de-gapped 😎

And it's not just the compat — this release sands down a LOT of the cursed jank:

What got betterWhat it means for you
🎯Better targetingYour crosshair and the selection box finally agree on where a lowered block actually is
👻Fewer ghost windowsLess staring into the void through a lowered block! (I call these 'Doom Windows', or 'DODOs' :P)
⬇️Less snappingFreshly placed blocks stop doing the little dance - IYKYK
🧱More multi-stackingObjects & full blocks on combined slabs sit flush, and vanilla slabs chain neatly when stacked

*One-way for now: combining works when the vanilla slab sits on top of the Terrain Slabs slab — they lower and merge flush. The reverse (a Terrain Slabs slab on top of a vanilla slab) doesn't lower yet. It's a known limitation and on the list! 🛠️

🧱 What Slabbed does

In vanilla Minecraft, slabs are awkward supports. Objects look like they should sit on them, attach to them, or interact with them — but the game's placement and hitbox rules disagree.

Slabbed makes those situations feel consistent:

  • Objects sit on slab-supported surfaces more naturally.
  • Supported objects visually land where they actually are.
  • The crosshair targets the visible object instead of the wrong support block.
  • Common building objects behave sensibly around lowered slab structures.
  • Less floating, snapping, ghosting, and interaction mismatch.

The long-term goal is broad slab support, but Slabbed expands carefully — category by category, by proven behavior.

⚠️ Still rough

These haven't gotten focused work yet and may misbehave:

May misbehave
🪟Glass panes & barsnot slab-aware yet
🧶Carpets & thin top layersexcluded from offsets
Rails & redstonevisual / connection edge cases
🪧Signs & specialized attachmentsnot specially handled
🎨Heavily custom modded blocksmay need dedicated compat

And two Terrain Slabs edge cases I'm being honest about:

Terrain Slabs caveatThe deal
🔃A custom slab placed on top of a vanilla slabDoesn't lower yet — flip it around (vanilla on terrain) and you're golden ✨
🗼Very tall (3+) combined-slab towersCap how far they lower, on purpose — keeps targeting reliable instead of breaking your clicks

If something looks wrong, it probably is — and it's probably worth reporting (just see if it's already been reported first pleeease). 🐛

Compatibility

  • Minecraft 1.21.11
  • Fabric + Fabric API
  • Singleplayer and server (install on the client for the visuals)
  • Countered's Terrain Slabs — now supported! (optional)

Mods that heavily customize block shapes, rendering, collision, placement, or models may still need dedicated compatibility work.

🐛 Reporting bugs

Bug reports are super duper helpful! The most useful ones include:

  • Minecraft, Slabbed, Fabric Loader, and Fabric API versions
  • Other installed mods (especially Terrain Slabs!)
  • Exact placement steps + what you expected vs. what actually happened
  • A short screenshot or video — especially of the crosshair, placement attempt, or visual mismatch

🛠️ What's next

  • Custom-slab mixing in both directions, and deeper combined-slab towers
  • More supported object categories, added carefully
  • Tighter agreement between visuals, outlines, and raycasts
  • Fewer ghost blocks and wrong-target moments
  • The much asked-for ports!! MC 1.21.1 is currently in the works :)

Slabbed's goal is simple:

Things should sit where they look like they sit.

Minecraft just makes that surprisingly complicated.

💖 Thanks!

Slabbed is made by one person and is still actively evolving. Every bug report, screenshot, video, and weird edge case helps make slab-supported building better. Thank you for playing with Slabbed and helping me make it what it is!
